"Welcome Faye Ren.  We have been quiet for a while since we withdraw our team's entry for AC 35 but are rethinking future options.  Watch this space. Live Slow, Sail Fast. Indeed. Ian Charles Stewart"

So the Auld Mug stays in San Francisco and Australians are the new Challenger of Record for AC35.

That was quite a comeback.   From 8-1 down to win 9-8.   Hard to argue that Oracle USA are not worthy winners.   And Emirates Team New Zealand had solid chances before letting the Cup slip from their grasp.   So what next?   Will Ellison and Coutts adjust the formula having seen the high percentage of dropouts from the LV…See More

New Zealand seem to have the Edge over Oracle

Emirates Team New Zealand have a 2-0 lead after the first day of racing in America's Cup 34, the Finals, in San Francisco.   The lead is actually 4 points as the official score is NZ 2 : Oracle -2 after the Americans received a 2 point penalty last week from an international jury who penalised them for cheating…See More

Little Public Interest in the LV Challenger Series

Spending some time in San Francisco during the opening LV Cup matches was interesting, if a little sad.  WIth only three teams competing and four needed for the semi-finals these so-called qualifying races, originally expecting 12 teams, hold little interest as everyone automatically goes through to the final round.    One of…See More

Uncertainty still surrounds the 34th America's Cup Challenge

It has been an interesting few months.   There has been a change of the Challenger of Record (Vincenzo Onorato, previously a strong defender of the new rules, and costs, of AC34 has pulled his Mascalzone Latino run Club Nautico di Roma challenge from its privileged position as Challenger of Record, and from the Cup entirely) and a change of boat rules for the pre-Cup regattas (the AC45 will continue to be used next year for all of the America's Cup World Series regattas, when the original plans…See More

NEWS FLASH : Britain's Team Origin pulls out of AC 34.

Citing unhappiness with the decisions about boat design and racing format, Team Origin's owner Sir Keith Mills has said that he doesn't think the new format for the America's Cup is viable. As I have said previously: in this interesting off-water battle between owners and sailors, the sailors are winning. It will be interesting to see how this develops.See More

America's Cup 34: Owners vs Sailors?

It looks like the new battle for the America's Cup will be between Owners and Sailors. Notwithstanding Mike Sanderson's departure from Team Origin, at the moment the sailors are winning. BMW Oracle design coordinator Ian Burns has said that the AC "is the pinnacle of our sport" and continues "the boats should be physically demanding to race well and produce fast, competitive racing to engage new fans". And Russell Coutts says the boats "need to be designed from the outset to unleash the full…See More
