Back to normal on day one of the Sea Dubai RC 44 Gold Cup fleet

November 27, 2009 – Four races took place today in a light and fairly unstable breeze, allowing four different teams to score victories. Artemis and Team Aqua, the two teams who lead the overall Championship Tour, needed a couple of races to get back in a confident mode after their disappointing results in the match race event. They finally showed their usual leadership in the fleet regatta in the second part of the day.

The first regatta saw a splendid domination by the local Team… Continue

Thanks to a third and a first, the American team - with Larry Ellison at the helm and Russell Coutts calling the shots - takes the lead of the fleet regatta ahead of Team Aqua and Islas Canarias Puerto Calero.

April 24, 2009 – For most RC 44 team owners, the first fleet regatta coincides with their return at the helm for the first time since the last event. The transition is usually sharp, and they sometimes need a couple of regattas to get their feeling back. Larry Ellison didn’t… Continue

Politics Plays a Role in the Friendliest of Races!

I came across this story in the LA Times. Seems politics is the curse of sailing, even in the friendliest of races. Newport to Ensenada is one of the best "parties" in the sport. Hardly a serious race as many of the entrants turn on the motors in light wind.

It's Official!!! Oracle Win Legal Battle

After more than two years of contentious debate, legal wrangling, political positioning, at times out right name calling and general discord, the New York Supreme Court, has made the final decision between Oracle and Alignhi. In the courts unanimous decision it found that CNEV was not a qualified yacht club at the time it issued it's challenge and has installed GGYC and Oracle as the official challenger of record.

The decision was based primarily on a condition in the "Deed of Gift"… Continue
