For friends of China's official America's Cup sailing team
Emirates Team New Zealand have a 2-0 lead after the first day of racing in America's Cup 34, the Finals, in San Francisco. The lead is actually 4 points as the official score is NZ 2 : Oracle -2 after the Americans received a 2 point penalty last week from an international jury who penalised them for cheating during the earlier rounds with their 45 foot catamaran. The Finals are a 17 race series over the next two weeks in the larger 72 foot cats. Speculation will now start about how New Zealand might adjust the rules, as Cup Holders are allowed to, if they take the America's Cup back to New Zealand. A return to a passport rule (where all team members need to hold a passport from the country for which they are sailing) has been mooted. That will be interesting as the current generation of Kiwis are generally considered the best team sailors in the world and Kiwis populate many of the other AC teams. Including, notably, Oracle USA.
